The girls have collaborated with a venerable laundry list of designers (think Vera Wang, Calvin Klein, Cushine et Ochs, Yigal Azrouel, Narciso Rodriguez and doo.ri) to create limited edition capsule collections consisting of riffs on some of their most quintessential pieces. Ceci Johnson is a tour de force when it comes to design and creativity. We love everything from her couture invitations, inspiring magazine to the pret-a-vendre stationary. We caught up with her and asked a few questions on style (fashion, vacation and invitation).

CDC: You are obviously influenced by fashion, which we love. What trends do you see in invitation style this season? Bridal Invitations?

Ceci Johnson: There's been a big influence from the Royal wedding. A return to classic elegance. We create invitations with custom crests for our clients - very royal indeed! (Click Here to see) I've also been doing a lot of Great Gatsby / Art Deco inspired designs. I love mixing great patterns with metallic foils. The foils add just the perfect amount of glitz and glamour to your invitations.

CDC: Do you have advice for a client looking to invite in style on a budget? With last minutes notice?

Ceci Johnson: We've designed last minute save the dates that are digitally designed and formatted - so they are designed to be sent out over email - like a Couture Paperless Post, really. Try Digital Printing for last minute invitation suites. and opting to do you own hand calligraphy to speed up that process (of course only if you have nice handwriting) With great design, any printing method can look amazing whether it's flat or letterpress. Just make sure your design looks fantastic!

CDC: Your current issue of CeciStyle is all about white. What white pieces are your 'must haves' for this summer?

Ceci Johnson: I love flowing maxi dresses and summer wedges. And any jewelry with white enamel mixed with metallic accents. It looks so polished and chic - especially against your sun-kissed skin. CDC: Any vacation plans? What will you pack?

Ceci Johnson: Yes! I'm actually leaving for my annual family Fourth of July vacation this weekend to South Carolina. We always go to my in-laws lake house and just check out from our normal hustle and bustle city life. I love the tranquility and peace that the lake house offers. It's the complete opposite from NYC (which is why I think I love it so much). It allows me to have true peace and quiet and do some great creative thinking! I'm packing my sundresses, bathing suits, SPF 30+, my Chanel sunglasses and all my books that I've been too busy to read. Now it's time to catch up on my summer reading.

CDC: What's upcoming for you? We want to promote your next amazing things!

CDC: What is L-atitude and what inspired you to start the site?

AN: L-atitude is an online portal that specializes in virtual shopping trips to the world's most coveted destinations. It is an e-commerce site that offers women a unique mix of fashion and accessories from established brands, emerging designers and traditional artisans from all over the world.

Over my years of extensive travels, I've enjoyed searching the globe for unique, well-made and affordable fashion. I suffered from a heavy work load when I was at Morgan Stanley, and on the weekends I found myself constantly on travel sites, looking for a "virtual escape". When I was transferred to Morgan's Hong Kong office, I took every chance to explore East Asia & Southeast Asia. It was then that I realized I wanted to launch a site that married travel & fashion. My hope for L-atitude is that it will serve as a virtual escape for women to discover different cities & cultures through our favorite pastime - shopping!

CDC: What are your top 3 destinations and why?

AN: 1) Mumbai, India: I absolutely love India. Bombay is such a vibrant city and the Victorian architecture brings you back to another time. I have so many memorable moments - chowing down on Bombay street food at Swati Snacks, in awe when I walked into Bandit Queen's showroom in Kalachowky, seeing my Indian yoga instructor's face when I couldn't touch my toes. 2) Bagan, Burma: Out of all my travels, this is the most stunning place I've been to... imagine a 100 mile valley terrain covered with thousands of 11^th century Buddhist temples. It was such a mystical and beautiful experience... I'll never forget it. 3) Bali, Indonesia: The island is absolutely beautiful from lush hills to beautiful volcanic black sand beaches. I've been twice, and still haven't been able to explore the entire island. Needless to say, Bali is home to some of the most breath-taking resorts in the world.

CDC: Where is your next trip and what are you packing?

AN: Turks & Caicos! I'm going to live in Miguelina's amazing lace caftans/tunics, the Balinese jewelry & sarongs I sourced in January and a Salman Rushdie novel so I can get lost in his mystical worlds.

CDC: What are your top 3 'must haves' for Spring from the site?

China Time

Although there are plenty of opportunities for great shopping in China, I found it to be more of a place to get inspired than a place to rack up the credit card bill. Temples are painted in brilliant blues and vibrant reds, futuristic architecture gleams with a rainbow of hues, giant Buddhas shine in gold. What is super interesting is how people shop in China, either on 'high street' type landmark thoroughfares or (like much of Asia) in malls. One particular morning in Shanghai was spent walking aimlessly through a shopping center starting at people staring at us as they browsed American and European brands while sipping Starbucks (a major status symbol). Shopping centers and malls also go all out for Christmas, as the season is gaining traction as a commercial holiday.

What you should buy in China includes jade (check out the Jade Market in Hong Kong), pearls (the Hongqiao 'Pearl Market' in Beijing is the perfect place to hone your haggling skills, pearl earrings should be about $1.50) and souvenirs for your friends and family (the Shanghai Museum has a surprisingly tasteful collection, think a small version of The Met Store). Tea is another must. Brewing a pot at home will instantly bring you back! There is an abundance of brands and flavors, my favorite being open flower Jasmine.

If you have some time in HK, go to a tailor to have some shirts, suits or just about anything made. Here I am (below) discussing a shirt, I went the menswear inspired route, textured cotton with French cuffs and my initials. Art Basel, when Miami Beach really sizzles!

Miami was abuzz last week with the international art fair Art Basel Miami Beach taking over the town. The event draws an international crowd and there was certainly a creative spirit in the air...everywhere you look, art!

We spent most of the time at Soho Beach House, the newest addition to the Soho House family and the spot for Basel pre and post parties. After visiting the convention center and other shows such as Scope, I of course left time for shopping.

Curve's Miami outpost, Curve Soliel, joins as sunny sister Curve New York and Curve Los Angeles and is located in the Gansevoort Miami Beach. You can expect the typical designer fare (Isabel Marant RTW, Valentino accessories) plus new additions like Proenza Schouler, Alexander McQueen and Burberry Prorsum. If you are invited to a last minute Basel party next year, this is definitely the place to come for an oh so right outfit.

We also spent time poolside at the Raleigh for the Kkini trunk show. Kkini recently introduced a line of glitter suits that are flying out of stores in Miami! They are available at both Amira in the Gansevoort and The Raleigh Hotel Boutique in the Raleigh.

It was great to get visit Paris and see what is happening in the City of Lights....the thing I love most Parisian style is the inherent 'togetherness' of their ensembles...never too coiffed...only artfully disheveled...and not a sweatpant in sight!

The holiday shopping season was well underway....just look at the scarf counter at Hermes....lucky women all over the world will be opening their orange boxes on Christmas morning! Here is the link to Hermes scarves...send it to your Santa...

Down the street at Colette there was a similar scene...Proenza for the Parisians! Colette was featuring Lauderee macarons...but I was lusting over the jewelry including House of Waris. Maison Martin Margiela giant snow globes also caught my eye! This shopgirl is just avoiding the fray...

Another short walk to Hotel Costes for cocktail hour....but the window of Dani Flowers caught my eye...every hue of rose in a little jewel of a store....show a host/hostess some love with a bouquet from here and you are sure to be invited back.

Eventually I had to give in to macaron mania....Pierre Herme has exotic flavors such rose, salt and caramel and Tahitian vanilla. Delicious....but be forewarned you will eat them all in one sitting...so don't even consider these a gift.

A great vintage spot is Les Trois Marche de Catherine B....the go to source for vintage Hermes and Chanel, right in Saint-Germain-des-Pres, a fabulous shopping area. Check out their selection here...I'm eyeing the Kelly Clutch!

After a trip to India this fall, I got to thinking about traditional versus contemporary dress. One of the things Westerners are most drawn to about India is the amazing costume...I was lucky to experience the ultimate show of fine fabrics and jewels...an Indian wedding in Bombay! Of course, all the excitement made me want to...shop!

One of my favorite stores in Mumbai was Good Earth (see store images below!). Good Earth carries fantastic a selection of home decor, furniture and beauty items. I can compare it to a small ABC Carpet and Home with a contemporary Indian flavor. I picked up some brightly colored decorative dishes and a lovely smelling rose hand soap. A great spot in New Delhi is the Central Cottage Industries Emporium. This government run collaborative brings together craftspeople and their goods and also monitors price. Spotlight On: Chadwick Bell

Chadwick Bell showed his third collection (Spring 2010) last Thursday during New York Fashion Week and we couldn't get enough of it. Bell drew inspiration from an untitled Miro work from the early 1970's and this first translated in to 'blank canvas' (gorgeous canvas gabardine separates), then the artist's use of strong black lines (artfully tailored petrol wool) and finally the notions of texture and color (think eel skin, silk dupioni and crinkled chiffon).

One trademark Chadwick Bell piece is the kaftan, which was shown this season in a cotton moire with the texture similar to birch bark...absolutely breathtaking. Black mousseline trim and a plunging neckline gave the piece some edge....this is a piece to book a trip around!

Amanda was inspired by the styling of the belts (see image 1) and wore her belt looped through a blazer the next day!

Thinking Jewels

Made Her Think by Meredith Kahn, a fellow FIT grad, has made a big impact with buyers, editors and shoppers this season. Her inventive take on tough-style jewelry has caught our attention and we wanted to share our favorites!
We love the inverted stones, which Meredith uses in everything from bracelets and cuffs to rings… and the super-cool talon ring made with rose gold and sapphires.

CDC: Any tips for accessorizing this fall?

M: I think its all about a worker boot. As far as jewelry I think gauntlet rings, knuckle busters and thick cuff bangles!

CDC: Are you planning to extend your brand to other accessories? We noticed the gorgeous stingray and metal clutch you had from last season.

M: It sort of evolved organically that the handbag collection came about. A lot of the hardware and finishes came out as bags this season instead of jewelry!

One of our favorite West Village boutiques, Ludivine, has opened a second location uptown. Now Upper East Siders can get their fill of Vanessa Bruno and other French labels that are all tres jolie! We shop at Ludivine all the time for ourselves and with our clients because of their highly edited collection of the pieces that are both chic and wearable. You won’t leave empty handed!

While we are celebrating more French style in New York, we wanted to pay tribute to our favorite French style icons. London Calling

The long wait was finally over last week as Topshop’s much anticipated Soho location opened. We had to check it out for ourselves, so we braved the April showers (um, severe storms) for a taste of fast fashion. We always like a few of the Kate Moss for Topshop pieces and the rest of the offerings won’t disappoint those looking for a quick style fix. I walked away with a crisp white dress for the Hamptons this summer. However, beware of the insanely long fitting rooms lines - make sure you pick up everything you want to try on before you get in line.

We also picked our favorite ensembles from the Topshop dinner at Balthazar. See our stylish faves from left: Marchesa designer and CDC style icon Georgina Chapman, our favorite young Hollywood actress Emma Roberts looking sophisticated yet youthful as usual, chanteuse Jennifer Hudson had become a pro at dressing for her body shape, the Green family (patriarch is Topshop owner Sir Phillip Green) is a fashionable clan, what seems to be the most in love couple in NYC, Lorenzo Martone and Marc Jacobs were simple and suave and late night host Jimmy Fallon and musician/DJ Mark Ronson represented for the boys in slim fitting suits.

And we can’t forget the driving force at Topshop, Amanda’s favorite, the /model/designer/muse Kate Moss.

Our Top Looks: Penelope Cruz in vintage Balmain (a perennial favorite, Penelope aptly goes for fairy tale glamour), Sarah Jessica Parker in Christian Dior Haute Couture (this ‘barely mint’ confection is dreamy, SJP adds some edge with Lucia’s favorite accessory: the arm band), Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive (perfect fit and silhouette, gorgeous color, lots of shine, and the graduated paillettes give this gown a mermaid quality), Natalie Portman in Rodarte (a stand out color, and a clean and youthful look)

Mataano, meaning ‘twins’ in Somali, is a line of bold dresses designed by identical twin sisters Ayaan and Idyl Mohallim. The sisters, who have already been guests on Oprah along with another twin pair, The Olsens, launched this season with a 10 dress capsule collection. The line features intense, vibrant solids and colorful prints and expresses their multicultural background and ideals, suited for “the woman as a global citizen” according to Idyl. We couldn’t agree more - we will be packing a few Mataano dresses, a few bathing suits and our passports this winter for resort!

Miami Vices

What better way to ring in the New Year than with sun, sand, and sake in party-centric Miami! Quite a few New Yorkers fled the dropping mercury for the summer temperatures down south this year. Daily flights, cheap tickets and a short ride make Miami a fabulous destination for any winter weekend as well.

What to Pack: Miami’s laid-back atmosphere is perfect for bringing out your ‘fun’ pieces; things you wouldn’t think to wear to dinner at the Waverly or a night out on the Lower East Side. Floridians are never afraid of color so ditch your basic black and compliment your bright hues with crisp white. Beaches and boats area a Miami must (those in Key Biscayne are especially beautiful and exclusive) so bring plenty of bathing suits, cover-ups and sandals. Dinner and drinks at Casa Tua calls for cocktail dresses for women and dress shirts and linens pants for men.

Where to Shop: There a lot of small vintage stores tucked away in South Beach, such as Sasparilla. Just off Lincoln Road this small boutique carries vintage Dior, Gucci and Pucci and amazing prices. Bal Harbor boasts all the big names (Oscar de la Renta, Chloe, Graff, Loro Piana, Tod’s, Saks, Neiman Marcus) in an open-air shopping center filled with tropical gardens and great restaurants - a perfect escape during a short afternoon storm. Thomas Maier (creative director of Bottega Veneta, of course) is also a must see, a little piece of simplicity and luxury in a sometimes over-the-top city.

Aspen Aspirations

Aspen is one of the country’s top ski resort towns, thus a magnet for both ski fanatics and the general jet-set. The season has just begun, so reserve your ticket and pack your bag!

What to Pack: Fur coats, vests and accessories are a must (or faux-fur if you like) for days of shopping and dinners, as are chic yet weather-proof leather or suede boots. For apres-ski (at The Sky Hotel’s 39 Degrees lounge, of course (pictured above)), just switch your ski boots for cute sneakers and your coat and layers for a fun t-shirt or cashmere sweater.

Where to Shop: Aside from the big luxury names (Louis Vuitton, Fendi and cold weather kings Montcler and Dennis Basso), Aspen is home to quite a few small boutiques. My favorite is The Little Bird, a vintage and consignment store that stocked everything from a J. Mendel astrakhan coat to a selection of exotic skin clutches on my visit. Another favorite is the new J. Crew concept store: J. Crew-at-the-mountain. This unique location is stocked with tons of exclusive pieces and classics - you won’t leave empty handed.

Miu Miu Takes on 57th Street

Today we visited the yet to open to the public Miu Miu flagship, and we were pleasently unsurprised: the store was gorgeous, the staff was gorgeous (and helpful and knowledgable to boot) and the pieces were not only gorgeous but most were exclusive to the flagship.

I swooned over black and deep red satin pumps with a ruched heel and oversize bow detail. Desserts and champagne were served but I was more intersted in previewing the private 3rd floor salon - the perfect venue for Coup de Coeur personal appointments. Grecian Goddess

The Greek Islands are a constant favorite for those seeking some summer fun. While Mykonos is known for its gorgeous beaches and thriving night life, Santorini is known for its picturesque sunsets and romantic views. I couldn’t get enough of Greece this summer!

What to Pack: While the islands are not too formal, Greeks do like to dress up, especially for a dinner. Dresses and heels always work (beware of the cobblestones, you’ve been warned!) and white jeans are great for summer. The meltemi (winds that sweep the Aegean in July and August) can be strong and make evenings chilly, so bring a sweater for nights out, particularly if you are on a boat. For the day time, beachwear can be fun and flirty as most beaches have a little bit of a party scene or at least a few tavernas for lunches and drinks. Guys can wear button front shirt or polos with jeans and loafers. Dressing for the beach can be as simple as a suit and a t-shirt with sandals.

Where to Shop: Luisa is the place to get designer lines in Athens and Athenians go here to glam it up. Think fall’s Lanvin collection (complete with accessories, of course) mixed with DVF and Stella McCartney. There are 4 locations in Athens, I suggest visiting the one in Kolonaki, a fashionable neighborhood filled with boutiques and cafes to continue a day of shopping. In Mykonos, you can find Luisa Beach at Psarou, which has the same glamorous vibe but with a bohemian flair (SYLA, K. Jacques, Anya Hindmarch). In Santorini, Fira is known for its high-end fine jewelry shops but I prefer Oia, a small ‘traditional’ town that is filled with local arts and crafts, high-quality souvenirs and typical jewelry.

My last trip was split in to two: half in St. Barth’s, French West Indies; half in Cat Island, The Bahamas. So, I decided to split the traditional ‘Travel Style’ format in to two as well; Where to Shop in St. Barth’s and What to Pack for Cat Island. These two islands couldn’t be more different from each other - it really was the best of both worlds!

St. Barthelemy
St. Barthelemy is the most sought-after vacation destination in the Caribbean for good reason: gorgeous beaches, fabulous cuisine and top rate shopping. Here is my list of the must visit shops on the island….

Cat Island, The Bahamas
After the sticker shock of St. Barth’s, give your wallet a break on simple and unspoiled Cat Island. A 40 minute flight from Nassau, this is the quintessential postcard perfect vista: prsitine beaches, clear waters and blue skies (pictured below). Cat Island is best enjoyed with a signifigant other or by renting out one of the small resorts like Sammy T’s for a group weekend.

What to Pack:
The emphasis here is on relaxation and enjoying the island before it is developed. The activities are on the beach - all day, every day. A few swim suits, kaftans, breezy dresses and your favorite flats are all a woman will need here. Accessorize with a straw beach tote, a printed pareo and a golden tan! Men should include their beach standards as well: trunks (we love a guy in Vilebrequin), t-shirts or polos and sandals. Linen shirts and light pants for dinners on warm nights will work. Be sure to pack everything you may need (beauty, toiletries, reading materials, etc.) as the island selction is limited at best. The beauty is in the simplicty…

Georgia Tapert’s namesake home decor boutique recently opened its doors in Soho. Georgia has brought her design assistant experience and her passion for collecting treasures from around the world to her store, resulting in a fresh and well-edited selection with a wide variety of price points. A pair of Dorothy Draper designed screens ($9,000) and Andy Warhol drawings ($17,000) sit comfortably among Italian cotton herringbone throws from Lands Down Under (at only $110 and with a feel that the owner believes ”you would swear is cashmere”, they are a steal!).

The store is a great spot to pick up gifts: a cool memo pad with a silver-plated cover for your host/hostess ($25), a few Oscar de la Renta ikat photo frames for a friend’s birthday ($75-$110), or if you are in search of a wedding gift try architect designed FTF bamboo and Corian serving trays and butcher blocks ($375-$495), just to name a few of the Georgia’s favorites. This little shop is a wonderful addition to a neighborhood where it seems hard to find a happy medium between designer only and novelty. New Year’s Resolution: Update Your Wardrobe!

Whether your closet is a converted bedroom or former hallway, you should take stock yearly. Update your wardrobe with our mantra Sort, Edit and Organize and you’ll find that choosing an outfit will become a breeze!

Sort. Look at each item in your closet individually and put them in to the following categories: keep, give away and repair. The majority of your closet will go to keep. We don’t support the rule that if you haven’t worn something in a year, get rid of it, but we do agree that if there are things you rarely wear, it might be time. This of course doesn’t apply to black tie attire, vintage pieces and special occasion outfits. A perfect example of what to let go: if you have 7 black sweaters, lose the one or two that you wear the least or with the lowest quality.
Gather all your items for repair (missing buttons, faulty zippers, ripped seams) and alterations and drop them off together. Repair also pertains to shoes - all shoes should have at least half soles as city streets can wear your shoes out fast. We suggest Arty’s on 8th avenue for expert work and red soles for your Louboutins! Also, take your jewelry for any repairs and to be cleaned.

Edit. Now that you have sorted through your wardrobe you can see what you have a lot of and what you are missing. Review the items you added to your give gway pile for a final edit. Take a look at these items, try them on and think about why you don’t wear them. Could the items be altered and updated to make them more wearable? If so, a shortened hem or tailored waist can make all the difference. If you decide to go with give away, pieces in good condition should be given to friends/family or a local organization such as the Salvation Army or City Opera Thrift Shop. If you would like to see some return (perhaps towards a YSL Muse fund!!!), bring designer pieces to consignment stores such as INA in New York.
Now that you have finalized your current wardrobe, you can begin to fill in the missing pieces. It may be as simple as looking at all your shoes together and noticing that you need great looking boots that you can also wear in the rain, or realizing that you never wear a French cuff shirt because you don’t have cufflinks you like. Finally, you can begin to think about the staples your wardrobe should have for your lifestyle - and this is where a Coup de Coeur shopping tour should come in!

Organize. These few tips will help you find things faster and put an outfit together easier with all sections of your wardrobe - hanging, folded and accessories. If you don’t have them already, get all matching hangers in a neutral color such as white. We prefer plastic hangers with hooks for dresses or camisoles, which are also very affordable. Plastic hangers take up much less space than fancy options such as wood (which can also snag delicate chiffons and knits) or satin. Another great option is a thin flocked hanger, which has a non-slip surface. Use heavyweight hangers for outerwear and gowns and clip slack hangers for pants and skirts. Hanging your jeans, as oppossed to folding them in draweres or shelves, is also a great idea as you can see your entire inventory and access them with ease (see above image!). Exchange all your hangers (especially the wire ones from the dry cleaner!) and re-stock your closet in an orderly fashion - tops, sweater and jackets (all by sleeve length and color), pants and skirts (by color and material), dresses (by sleeve length, dress length and color) and outerwear (by color). The same goes folded items like t-shirts, sweater and the like. For women’s jewelry and watches and men’s personal accessories and jewelry, we suggest shallow, lined drawers. Shelves are best for handbags, which should be arranged by style (totes, clutches, shoulder bags, etc.) and color. The most delicate bags can be stuffed to retain thier shape. Some choose to keep shoes in platic boxes with Polaroid photographs identifying the contents, but as this can limit your ability to compare, we suggest lining them up on shelves by style and color (see above image!).

Stylish Seattle

The only major US city I hadn’t yet visited was Seattle, so my Thanksgiving trip there was met with anticipation. Many misconceptions exist about this Pacific Northwest metropolis, including that it is constantly raining and that it lacks a stylish community. I was pleasantly surprised by both the weather and the shopping, not too mention the delightfully friendly residents and the thriving restaurant scene. Be sure to check out the Seattle Art Museum, which houses everything from Warhol prints to Native American costumes and the Pike Place Market with its seemingly endless supply of seafood, produce, flowers and gifts….oh, and the original Starbuck’s in case you would like to know where your $5 latte originated.

What to Wear
The rainfall may be exaggerated, but the clouds and overcast sky are not, so bundle up if you are visiting in fall or winter. Wear layers, bring lots of cashmere and wool and sport a hat (Amanda and I love Anna Kula for women and Borasalino for men!). The days of perennial plaid and Birkenstocks are thankfully gone, and a casual cool vibe has taken their place. Jeans are acceptable almost everywhere, though many restaurants encourage a jacket for men at dinner. There is a rock n’ roll vibe still prevalent on the streets (not surprising from the city that spawned grunge), but the young fashionable people around town have mixed their Salvation Army with duds from Barneys and high-end boutiques, so your favorites from H&M are just as at home here as your prized Balenciaga pieces are.

Where to Shop
The up-and-coming neighborhood of Belltown has the most energy and a plethora of cool boutiques (the feeling is a mix of gritty and charming a la the Lower East Side), the most fabulous of which is, hands-down, Polite Society. Owner Eric Akines’ gorgeous spot carries a highly edited but bountiful collection of clothing, accessories, antiques and home decor from across the globe. Beyond the selection, the merchandising and presentation are wonderful - a mix of industrial, luxe and vintage. Women will appreciate Eric’s keen eye for emerging Copenhagen brands such as Baum und Pferdgarten and By Malene Birgir and revel in the sophisticated styles of Paris’ Afshin Feiz and London’s Jenny Packham. Men can choose from favorites like Alessandro Dell’Acqua and Armand Diradourian or seek out lesser know and emerging designers such as Munich’s Hannes Roether. I picked up a stunning yellow chartreuse silk Malene Birgir blouse and an ultra-chic glazed croc-embossed travel wallet form Australia’s Catherine Manuell Design.

Stacey Lapidus, a former accessories editor at Vanity Fair and a founding member of bagborroworsteal.com, designs girlish pieces with a sophisticated edge. Her line of jewelry and accessories has a huge celebrity following and is a favorite with editors and stylish city girls. We sat down with Stacey at her recent editor preview at her NYC showroom to get the scoop….

CDC: What is your design inspiration?
SL: My friends and I inspire me! I create pieces we would want to wear.

CDC: What is the must-have piece from your line this collection?
SL: I love my crystal braided belts, they are excellent for layering and add a bit of sparkle. The studded bracelets and bangles are also classics that look great stacked. (See image below!)

CDC: Where do you shop in New York?
SL: I go to Barneys for everything. I love anything from Marni, Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu. On the days I can’t afford them, I substitute Urban Outfitters which has it all for less.

CDC: What is on your holiday wish list?
SL: I have been eyeing a pair of navy blue leather boots from Calypso for months. The Hudson Street location is right by my apartment, so I visit them often!

This month, we will be profiling some of our favorite jewelry designers. We thought this was the perfect time of year to introdue you to the designers and thier lines, as a piece of jewelry is a wonderful holiday gift! Meet our second designer below….

Ashley Dodgen-McCormick designs a line of gorgeous jewels under the charming nickname Asha, coined by her Cuban grandparents. Ashley’s 18K yellow and white gold line integrates her signature quatrefoil detail with semi-precious stones and natural materials. She recently made the natural progession to handbags, with variations on the iconic clutch in exotic materials that are sure to become classics.

CDC: What is your design inspiration?
ADM: The classics, art and architecture.

CDC: What is the must-have piece from your line this collection?
ADM: The classic clutch in python with moonstone cabochons, and my cabochon cuff in white. (See image below!)

Covet is an chic subterreanean boutique in the West Village which houses the 14K and 18K gold designs of Alexa Garner Sidaris. This clean, uncluttered space beautifully displays Alexa’s necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings, which often feature a dusting of diamonds. Call to set up a personal appointment with co-owner Alexis Mack, and you are sure to find a jewel you will ‘covet’.

CDC: What is your design inspiration?
AGS: For the new Spring 08 collection, I was mostly inspired by the birth of my son. This required me to scale back, fine tune and simplify everything in my life. I think it’s reflected most in the simplicity and clean lines of the new collection.

CDC: What is the must-have piece from your line this collection?
AGS: My must-have piece for the season is my Hand-cut Mother-of-Pearl and Diamond Earrings….chic and earthy all in one. (See below image!)

AGS: I like stores in the Meatpacking District…they are so airy and they have great modern design aesthetic.

The shoe department at Saks Fifth Avenue has been given a total overhaul, a major upgrade and its own zip code (10022-shoe, naturally). Check out the gorgeous new decor, beautifully displaying an enhanced selection including Azzedine Alaia, YSL, Derek Lam, Chanel, Prada, Sergio Rossi, a Roger Vivier in-store boutique, a Charbonnel et Walker cafe and an in-store shoe repair outlet.

Downtown, Plaza Too has added a second Manhattan location (and a ninth location in the greater New York area) with a new spot on Hudson Street, in the heart of the West Village. September brought me back to Italy for a tour of the incomparably beautiful region of Tuscany. Fashion is not only a pastime in Italy, it is a major industry and a way of life. The hallmarks of Italian style are custom tailoring and made to order pieces; produced with the fine materials the country is known for, including leather, cashmere, and cotton. Fashionable Italians are both daring and sophisticated, spoiled with access to some of the world’s most well-known designers.

This season brought the retirement of one of fashion’s most-loved designers after 45 years of remarkable (and red!) style, Valentino, who held his first show at the Palazzo Pitti in Florence in 1962. Pay tribute with a stop at the Valentino boutique, located at Via della Vigna Nuova 47R. Also in Florence, visit the museum of another one of fashion’s star names: Ferragamo. The Salvatore Ferragamo Museum outlines the career of the designer and houses over 10,000 pairs of the label’s shoes!

What to Wear:
In fall, temperatures in Tuscany range from the 50s to the 60s F. Men should pack simple easy pieces; including a tailored shirt for day, a cashmere sweater for cool nights, leather moccasins for walking, slim fit jeans for sightseeing and shopping and a jacket for dinner. Forgo shorts and open-toe sandals. Women should include tailored slacks or jeans for daytime, a silk dress for appertivos and a wool or cashmere cardigan for layering. Also, bring a wrap or a jacket to keep warm in the evening. A touch of glamour for a night out is a must, but avoid unwanted attention by watching your hemline!

The original and largest location also houses an incredibly chic cafe, where you can either sit down to lunch or stand (as the Italians do!) at the bar for an espresso or a glass of wine. Michele Negri’s private lable exudes the classic Italian style we love, with a contemporary flair. The store also stocks additional men’s and women’s labels such as Kiton.

The Mall
About 30 minutes from Florence in the rolling Tuscan hills, The Mall is an outlet center - Italian style. Instead of finding discount housewares and big brand retailer castoffs, you will discover previous season offerings from the likes of La Pearla, Sergio Rossi, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Marni, Loro Piana and Yves Saint Laurent. I picked up a gorgeous pair of Tod’s flat boots in the softest chocolate leather….

Greetings from Dubrovnik

I recently returned from a fabulous week in Croatia, beginning in the glistening city of Dubrovnik and ending on the nightlife-centric island of Hvar. Croatia is quickly becoming to new jet-set summer destination in Europe, so read below and pack your bags!

What to Wear:
The summer months are hot, so for day men should be sure to bring light linen shirts and women should include breezy sundresses. Dubrovnik, especially the Stradun, is paved in highly polished (and highly slippery) marble, so include shoes with traction for a day of sightseeing. On high profile Hvar (often touted as the new St. Tropez), bring your party clothes for nights out at island hotspot Carpe Diem. Croatia is all about the gorgeous blue-green Adriatic Sea, therefore swimsuits and beach gear are a must. A warning: the water is full of sea urchins, so rubber shoes for serious swimmers are essential!

Where to Shop:
My favorite store in Dubrovnik was by far Maria. This boutique carries current season pieces by Celine and Miu Miu, to-die-for shoes by the wonderful Rene Caovilla, Erikson Beamon jewels and offerings from Gharani Strok (I picked up a electric blue printed scarf blouse), the London based design team of Croaatian native Vanya Strok and Iranian-born Nagress Gharani.

Odin and Den

Why we love it: Thanks to a recent edition, East 11th Street now boasts two of the chicest men’s boutiques around. First there was Odin, an established spot offering a uniquely edited collection of must-have clothing and accessories for men. This small store boasts lines such as Y-3, shades by Marc Jacobs as well as indie offerings from Rag & Bone, Phillip Crangi jewelry and super-soft tees by Nostalgie. In the back, you’ll find luxe skincare products by Sharps, cologne by Comme des Garcons, and even fish eye cameras by Lomo.

The latest addition to Odin’s family, Den, offers a new concept in shopping; owners Eddy Chai and Paul Birardi devote the entire store to only one designer at a time. At the moment, they are showcasing the line Cheap Monday, which will be followed by other emerging talents such as Tim Hamilton, and Karen Walker.

Piece to covet: S2W8 Canvas duffle bag. Perfect for those last-minute weekend getaways. Throw your Havaianas and some board shorts in there and you’re set!

Why we love it: A welcome destination for Meatpacking District shoppers, this bright boutique is nestled in a non-Scoop plot of Washington Street and is outfitted in dark wood flooring, cow-skin rugs and original photography installations on the walls. Carrying all the established fashionista staples (See by Chloe, Vivienne Westwood), Dernier Cri also stocks the next-big-thing designs of Tsumori Chisato and Gen Art alum, Chris Habana. “We offer something different, but we make it accessible,” explains store owner, Stacia Valle. “We sell fashion-forward, inspired design without making it too precious, and the customers really respond to that—they get creative and become less self-conscious.” With their highly-edited offerings, laid-back vibe and knowledgeable sales staff, Dernier Cri is a spot you’ll be going back to again and again.

Piece to covet: We are obsessed with cool, white cotton t-shirts during these overly-hot summer months, and Dernier Cri offers a superfine version, with lingerie embellished stitching, by Harlow.

Plum and Pear

Why we love it: Plum, the 2-year-old Victorian parlor-esque boutique of ready-to-wear and accessories, along with its sister store, Pear, a Parisian Boudoir of fancy footwear, are imagined to be an interpretation of a fashion forward girl’s closet and dressing area. The staff at both locations are well-versed on the established and up-and-coming designer’s collections—such as Gen Art alums Octopi and Mischen. Owner Jackie Atkins, who has a background in television and film costume design, brings a fresh international perspective to Ludlow Street with offerings from Australian whiz kid Josh Goot, Copenhagen/Berlin innovator Sarah Heart Bo and Brazilian shoe designer Corso Como.

Piece to covet: The best part about these stores is acquiring an entire ensemble between the two shops. We found Chie Mihara flats with suede ankle straps at Pear, perfect for day or evening, which we will “pair” with Josh Goot’s metallic tank dress at Plum.
